Panels & workspaces
Docked and floating panels#
Every panel — Tools, Colour, Layers, Timeline, Preview, Reference — can be:
- **Docked*— attached to a screen edge, resized with the grabber on its canvas-facing edge.
- **Floating*— dragged anywhere by its header, resized from the bottom-right corner.
To detach a docked panel, drag its header. Drop it near an edge and it re-docks; an accent border shows where it will land. Close a panel with its ✕; restore it from the windows menu (macwindow icon, top bar) or View ▸ Workspaces ▸ Restore all.
The Preview panel floats in the canvas's bottom-right corner by default.
Workspace presets#
View ▸ Workspaces applies a full layout in one tap:

Save your own layout#
View ▸ Workspaces ▸ Save Layout A / B stores the current arrangement (panel positions, sizes, docked/floating state, tool bar side). Load Layout A / B brings it back. Restore Workspaces returns everything to the shipped defaults.
Tool bar position#
Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Tool bar position — Left (a vertical rail) or Top (a horizontal strip). On a narrow screen (Slide Over) Ambersprite may switch to the top strip automatically.
Tabs#
Ambersprite can hold several sprites open at once. File ▸ New / Open while a document is open adds a tab; the tab bar appears above the context bar. Each tab keeps its own undo history. Duplicate (Sprite menu) opens a copy in a new tab.
