Symmetry

Symmetry mirrors every stroke across one or more axes as you draw. It works with all paint and shape tools.

Turn it on#

In the Tool rail ▸ Symmetry section, toggle any combination of:

AxisMirrors across
Mirror HA vertical line — left ↔ right
Mirror VA horizontal line — top ↔ bottom
Mirror /The / diagonal
Mirror \\The \\ diagonal

Enabling H and V together gives four-way symmetry; add a diagonal for eight-way.

Move the axes#

The axes start at the canvas centre. With Axis movable on, drag the on-canvas handles to reposition them — useful for a character that isn't centred, or for tiling patterns.

  • **Axis shown / hidden*— show or hide the guide lines.
  • **Axis locked / movable*— freeze the axes so you don't nudge them by accident.

Symmetry with selections#

  • **Selection mirrors*— the active selection is mirrored too, so a mirrored stroke stays inside the mirrored region.
  • **Selection single*— only your strokes mirror; the selection stays as drawn.

Symmetry is a drawing aid, not baked into the layer. Turn it off and the existing pixels stay exactly where they are — you can keep editing one side freely.
